Energy systems

Assistance with the design of systems

9

Background

The design of an electrical power system or a multiphysics energy system (mixing various physical domains) goes through a certain number of steps and technical choices which are subject to hazards and risks, particularly during system integration. In a situation where the control of the lead times and costs is critical, the ability to anticipate these technical risks and validate the choices made, as early as possible, is a competitive advantage.

Requirement

The technical choices relate not only to the sizing of components but also to the choice of technology, the definition of a regulation strategy, the coherence between the sizing of the different components in the system, the behaviour of the system under critical scenarios, etc.

Principle :

CAPSIM uses its experience in the field of electrical power grids and systems and multiphysics systems, as well as in the use of simulation tools such as PSIM or EMPT, to provide assistance with design by simulation.

This involves overall modelling of the function of the system using typical scenarios in order to characterize and validate all the parameters which influence the sizing of its equipment.

This analysis often requires detailed modelling and physical understanding of the equipment making up the system, whether it is entirely electrical or multiphysics. Hence, CAPSIM has produced, for example, models of Diesel motors, special generators, thyristor AC/DC converters, etc.
